About This Event
The conference — the highest decision-making body of the Union — was held across three days at the Bethel Heights Hotel in Accra with the theme: "Positioning MUSIGA for Growth in the Digital Age."
The Deputy Minister for Tourism Arts and Culture, the Hon. Mark Okraku Mantey, opened the conference and requested a letter for submission to the Ministry of Education on reintroducing music education at the basic school level. He also assured MUSIGA of a tax waiver pursuit for imported personal musical equipment.
The UNESCO Culture Specialist, Carl Ampah, urged the Union to forge appropriate partnerships. Other speakers included former MUSIGA President Mrs. Diana Hopeson and highlife musician Ben Brako.
Key motions from members included: professionalising membership and executive eligibility, monthly dues payment, five-year membership card lifespans, improved regional-national communication, and digital platforms for virtual meetings.
The President committed to: presenting membership benefit proposals, ensuring every region gets an office, establishing six new regional branches, launching a pension scheme, and fixing the MUSIGA website.
